Often times graphs can be misleading because the creator or publisher wants to sway people to believe what they want them to believe. In the photo I have attatched (Schiavo, 2014) it may seem that far more Democrats agreed with the issue at hand than both Republicas and Independents. That is where this graph becomes misleading, because with closer look you can see that only four more Democrats agreed than Republicans or Independents. If the graph had started 0 and had proper spaces between the intervals it would have been much less misleading. This type of graph can have many ramifications, for example if the topic of the graph was very important many people may get upset due to the fact that so “many” people didn’t agree with their veiwpoint. It may cause people to feel that their political party, or their representatives, are not agreeing with their stances on subjects that are important to them. It is very important to present information in a way that makes it clear to see what is really going on.
